These huts, constructed of mud and thatch, are remnants of a unique and little-known chapter in French history. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a community of Sudanese laborers, who had been brought to France to work on the construction of the Suez Canal, settled in this remote area. Seeking to maintain their cultural traditions, they built these conical huts, replicas of the ones they had known in their homeland. Despite their exotic appearance, these huts were not an exhibit or oddity, but rather a testament to the diverse and multicultural nature of French society during this period.
