EDITORS COMMENTS
This cigar card features an image of the Zeppelin LZ-2, a modified version of the groundbreaking original LZ-1 airship. The LZ-2, also known as the "Schütte-Lanz Mark I," was designed and built by the German engineers Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin and Henri Schütte-Lanz between 1903 and 1904. This historical photograph showcases the LZ-2 in flight, its distinctive rigid frame and large, tapering envelope filled with hydrogen gas creating an elegant silhouette against the sky. The LZ-2 represented a significant advancement from its predecessor, the LZ-1, which made its first successful flight in 1900. The LZ-2 featured several improvements, including a more streamlined shape, a larger envelope, and a more powerful engine. These enhancements allowed the LZ-2 to carry more passengers and travel further distances, expanding the possibilities for airship transportation. The LZ-2 made its maiden flight on July 2, 1904, piloted by Count Zeppelin and Schütte-Lanz. The flight lasted for approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes, covering a distance of about 12 kilometers. Although the LZ-2 did not achieve the same level of fame as later Zeppelin models, such as the LZ-12 and LZ-13, it played a crucial role in the development of airship technology and paved the way for larger, more advanced designs. This original cigar card offers a unique glimpse into the early days of aviation history, showcasing the LZ-2 as it soared through the skies, inspiring a new generation of engineers and innovators. With its intricate details and stunning visual appeal, this collectible card is a must-have for aviation enthusiasts, historians, and anyone with an appreciation for the marvels of engineering and human ingenuity.
