There, he established a theocratic government based on his interpretation of the Bible and became the spiritual leader of the Protestant Reformation in Geneva and beyond. Calvin's theology, known as Calvinism, emphasized the sovereignty of God, the depravity of humanity, and the importance of faith and good works. Calvin's influence extended far beyond Geneva, and his ideas spread throughout Europe and beyond, shaping the course of Protestantism and Western thought.
