This photograph captures the moment of determination and courage as American aviator, Lincoln Ellsworth (1880-1953), prepares for takeoff in his Northrop aircraft, during his historic Arctic expedition in 1951. Ellsworth, a pioneer in polar exploration, is renowned for his daring flights over the icy expanses of the Arctic.
