EDITORS COMMENTS
"In this enchanting turn-of-the-century image, a lady in a flowing, medieval-inspired gown gazes up at the moon with a look of wonder and anticipation. Surrounded by a dreamlike winter landscape, she is accompanied by a fairy or sprite, its tiny wings aglow in the moonlight. The ethereal scene is reminiscent of Shakespeare's "The Tempest," with the lines "Kind Fortune smiles, and she Hath yet in store for thee Some great felicity" inscribed at the bottom of the print. The moon, a symbol of mystery and magic, casts a soft, silvery glow over the landscape, adding to the sense of enchantment. The lady, bundled in a muff to ward off the chill, seems to be lost in thought, perhaps awaiting the fulfillment of a wish or the arrival of a long-awaited blessing. This beautiful, mythical image, with its fairy tale elements and literary allusion, transports us to a world of fantasy and wonder, where anything is possible under the watchful eye of the moon." Mary Evans Picture Library/Peter & Dawn Cope Collection, circa 1902. No commercial use.
