EDITORS COMMENTS
"Step back in time with this photograph of a travelling telephone in use on an American express train from Salt Lake, Utah to the mining camp of Ely, Nevada, circa 1907. The train, which ran the entire journey with a switchboard fitted in the center of one of the saloons, provided a vital communication link between the remote mining community and the outside world. In this image, an operator is shown diligently attending to incoming calls, ensuring that important messages reached their intended recipients in a time before instant communication was commonplace. The travelling call office was a testament to the ingenuity and innovation of the era, bridging the gap between isolation and connectivity. This historical photograph, taken on September 21, 1907, offers a unique glimpse into the past, transporting us back to a time when long-distance travel and communication were true feats of engineering and human endeavor."
