Slow But Sure The time honoured saying The Way To A Mans Heart
Slow But Sure
The time honoured saying " The Way To A Mans Heart Is Through His Stomach", applys equally where tortoises are concerned. Young Michael Setford, who is sitting on George, the 60 year old Giant Tortoise at London Zoo, found this out when he tried to get George to move along, assisted by his cousin Malcolm Smith, of Uppminster. The youngsters discovered however that Old Georges appetite for carrots was unlimited and so long as the food was there, he was quite contented to remain where he was!

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this charming print from 1948, we see the timeless saying "The Way To A Man's Heart Is Through His Stomach" taking on a whole new meaning. Young Michael Setford, accompanied by his cousin Malcolm Smith, found themselves in a delightful predicament while attempting to move George, the 60-year-old Giant Tortoise at London Zoo. As they soon discovered, George had an insatiable appetite for carrots. No matter how hard they tried to coax him along, he remained steadfastly rooted to the spot as long as there was food within reach. The boys' efforts were met with amusement and laughter from onlookers who witnessed their futile attempts to persuade the tortoise to budge. This endearing image captures not only the patience of these young adventurers but also highlights the gentle nature of these magnificent creatures. It serves as a reminder that sometimes progress may be slow but steady when dealing with animals like tortoises. The photograph transports us back to a simpler time when innocence and curiosity reigned supreme. It reminds us that even in our modern world, where everything seems fast-paced and instant gratification is expected, there is still beauty in taking things slow but sure – just like Old George did on that summer day at London Zoo. Nature has its own way of teaching us valuable lessons if we are willing to observe and learn from it. And so it goes; through humor and wonderment captured in this snapshot frozen in time, we are reminded once
