Voyager spacecraft, stereo image

Voyager spacecraft, stereo artwork. Two Voyager spacecraft (one shown here) were launched in 1977, taking advantage of a rare alignment of the giant outer planets that made it possible to visit them in a single mission. Over the next twelve years the probes successfully carried out fly-by surveys of Jupiter (upper right), Saturn (upper left), Uranus (not shown) and Neptune (centre right). Images and scientific data were beamed back to Earth. The spacecraft were originally part of the Mariner program that included exploration of Mars (bottom). This image is designed to be viewed through 3D red-cyan glasses
