EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning print captures the remains of the entrance at Laodicea on the Lycus, a once thriving ancient metropolis in Turkey. Known for its production of woollen cloth during Roman times and as one of the Seven Churches of Revelation in the 4th century, Laodicea was a significant city with a rich history.
However, tragedy struck when a large earthquake destroyed the city, leaving behind only ruins and memories of its former glory. The site has never been rebuilt, serving as a haunting reminder of the power of nature to reshape landscapes and erase civilizations.
The image showcases the juxtaposition between ancient historical remains and modern surroundings, with the village of Eskihisar standing nearby. The province of Denizli provides a picturesque backdrop for this snapshot into Turkey's past.
As you gaze upon this photograph, you can almost feel the weight of centuries pressing down on these weathered stones. The intricate details preserved in these ruins offer a glimpse into what life may have been like in Laodicea during its prime.
Let this print transport you back in time to an era long gone but not forgotten - where empires rose and fell, leaving behind only whispers carried by the wind through ancient ruins.
