EDITORS COMMENTS
Step right up and prepare to be transported back in time to the vibrant and electrifying world of the Roaring Twenties as depicted on the cover of Theatre World's March 1926 issue, Volume III, Number 14. This stunning Art Deco illustration, created by the talented artist Bovey, invites us into a glamorous and exhilarating realm of nightlife, theatre, and jazz that defined the era. The cover is a visual feast for the eyes, with its bold geometric shapes, rich colors, and intricate patterns that are synonymous with the Art Deco style. The central focus is a dazzlingly dressed woman, her eyes fixed on the stage as if mesmerized by the performance unfolding before her. Surrounding her are a myriad of figures, each lost in their own world of delight, from the suave gentleman in a top hat and tails, to the flapper in a short bob and sequin dress, to the sultry singer with a microphone in hand. The Theatre World magazine was a staple of the New York theatre scene during the 1920s, and this cover perfectly encapsulates the spirit of the times. The era was a golden age for the performing arts, with Broadway productions drawing record crowds and jazz music becoming a cultural phenomenon. This cover is a testament to the energy, creativity, and excitement of the time, and a reminder of the enduring allure of the Roaring Twenties.
