Friedrich III, also known as Friedrich der Weise or Frederick the Wise, was the Elector of Saxony from 1486 until his death in 1525. This historical print depicts Friedrich in regal attire, adorned with a fur-trimmed robe and a distinctive tall hat, known as a "German hat" or "Mittelalterlicher Hut," which was a symbol of electoral rank. Friedrich was a prominent patron of the arts, particularly of the renowned artists Albrecht Dürer and Lucas Cranach the Elder.
