EDITORS COMMENTS
This illustration showcases the Cross-Channel Ferry Dragon, a historic vessel that graced the English Channel in November 1967. Built for a substantial investment of 2 million pounds, the Dragon was an engineering marvel of its time, boasting a contemporary design and impressive size. It was the largest ferry in service, with a capacity to carry both passengers and vehicles. The Dragon was a unique addition to the Channel fleet as she was the first passenger vessel to be constructed in France for British ownership. Her construction marked a significant milestone in maritime history, as it represented a new era of cooperation between the two neighboring countries. The Dragon's sleek lines and modern features were a testament to the advanced shipbuilding techniques of the late 1960s. With a length of 173 meters and a beam of 21.3 meters, she could accommodate up to 1,200 passengers and 200 vehicles. Her powerful engines enabled her to make the crossing from England to France in just over six hours. Despite being built in France, the Dragon was registered in the United Kingdom, and her British flag flew proudly on her mast. Her arrival in British ownership marked the beginning of a new chapter in cross-Channel ferry travel, as she offered passengers and vehicle drivers a more comfortable and efficient way to traverse the English Channel. This illustration is a snapshot of a bygone era in maritime history, a time when the Cross-Channel ferry was an essential mode of transportation for millions of people traveling between England and France. The Dragon's legacy continues to inspire and captivate us, reminding us of the rich maritime history that connects these two great nations.
