Phoenicura Cinclorhyncha, actually Petrocincla cinclorhynca

Phoenicura Cinclorhyncha, actually Petrocincla cinclorhynca. Birds from the Himalaya Mountains, engraving 1831 by Elizabeth Gould and John Gould. John Gould was working as a taxidermist, he was known as the bird-stuffer, by the Zoological Society. Goulds fascination with birds from the east began in the late 1820s when a collection of birds from the Himalayan mountains arrived at the Societys museum and Gould conceived the idea of publishing a volume of imperial folio sized hand-coloured lithographs of the eighty species, with figures of a hundred birds. Elizabeth Gould made the drawings and transferred them to the large lithographic stones. They are called Gould plates

EDITORS COMMENTS
Phoenicura Cinclorhyncha, actually Petrocincla cinclorhynca: A Glimpse into the Himalayan Avian World". This print showcases a remarkable engraving from 1831 by Elizabeth Gould and John Gould, depicting the Phoenicura Cinclorhyncha, or more accurately known as Petrocincla cinclorhynca. Originating from the majestic Himalaya Mountains, these exotic birds have long fascinated naturalists and artists alike. John Gould's journey into ornithology began during his time as a taxidermist for the Zoological Society. His fascination with Eastern avifauna blossomed when he encountered a collection of birds from the Himalayas at the society's museum in the late 1820s. This encounter inspired him to embark on an ambitious project - publishing an imperial folio-sized volume featuring hand-colored lithographs of eighty species and figures of one hundred birds. Elizabeth Gould played a crucial role in bringing these avian wonders to life through her meticulous drawings that were later transferred onto large lithographic stones. These extraordinary prints are now famously referred to as "Gould plates". In this particular engraving, we witness a close-up view of this Asian bird species with its striking tail feathers proudly displayed. The attention to detail is impeccable, capturing every intricate marking and coloration that defines this creature's beauty. Transport yourself back to early 19th-century England through this exquisite illustration that combines artistry and scientific observation seamlessly. Delve into British artist John Gould's legacy within natural history while appreciating Elizabeth Gould's contribution as an accomplished illustrator. The Liszt Collection presents us with yet another gem from their archives – an enchanting glimpse into our planet's diverse animal kingdom captured in ink and color by Quint Lox.
