Friedrich II, also known as Friedrich the Great, was the King of Prussia from 1740 until his death in 1786. Born on January 24, 1712, in Berlin, Prussia, Friedrich was the eldest son of Crown Prince Friedrich Wilhelm and Sophia Dorothea of Hanover.
