Jacobs began her tennis career in the early 1900s and quickly rose to prominence, becoming the U.S. National Women's Singles Champion in 1916. Her powerful serve and aggressive playing style earned her the nickname "The Battle Axe." Jacobs continued to dominate women's tennis throughout the 1910s and 1920s, winning numerous titles and setting records. However, Helen Jacobs was not just a tennis champion; she was also a passionate advocate for women's rights. In 1913, she joined the National American Woman Suffrage Association and became an active member of the suffrage movement.
