This striking print depicts the renowned French theological reformer, Jean Calvin (1509-1564), signing the Second Helvetic Confession in 1564. Calvin, an influential figure during the Protestant Reformation, is shown in a sober, introsive mood, with his quill pen poised above the parchment. The print, created in Switzerland, reflects the flat, historical style popular during the 19th century.
