Commissioned by the renowned explorer Christopher Columbus, the Santa Maria was the flagship of his fleet during his groundbreaking journey to the Americas. With three masts and a distinctive square-rigged sail plan, the caravel was a perfect vessel for Columbus's daring exploration of the unknown waters. The Santa Maria, built in the port of Palos de la Frontera in Spain, was a significant advancement in naval technology for the time.
