EDITORS COMMENTS
"This poignant photograph captures a tender moment between Queen Mary (left) and her youngest son, Prince John (1904-1919), at Windsor Castle in the early 1910s. Prince John, the fifth child and youngest son of King George V and Queen Mary, was a beloved figure in the royal family. However, his life was marked by tragedy. At the age of four, he began developing epileptic seizures, which led to his increasing removal from the public eye. As he grew older, Prince John's health continued to decline, and he was placed under the constant care of a nurse. Despite his illness, he remained an important part of the royal family, and his mother, the Queen, was devoted to him. In this image, Queen Mary tenderly holds her son's hand, offering him comfort and companionship. Tragically, Prince John's health continued to deteriorate, and he passed away prematurely in 1919 at the age of 14. This photograph serves as a poignant reminder of the human side of the royal family, and the love and care that existed within its ranks, even in the face of adversity."
