Known as "Le Lion de Belfort" or "The Lion of Belfort," Boulanger rose to prominence during the late 19th century in France, serving as a decorated military officer and a charismatic political figure. Boulanger's military career began in 1854, when he joined the French Army at the age of 17. He distinguished himself in the Crimean War and later in the Franco-Prussian War, where he was wounded several times and earned numerous decorations, including the Legion of Honor and the Medals of Military Valor.
