Title: "Charles John Darling, Judge (1849-1936)" Charles John Darling, born on March 1, 1849, was a prominent figure in British legal history, serving as a Judge of the High Court of Justice, King's Bench Division, from 1913 until his retirement in 1924. This photograph, taken in 1936, captures Darling in his later years, reflecting the wisdom and experience gained over his long and distinguished career. Born into a family of modest means, Darling demonstrated exceptional academic ability and was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge, where he excelled in classical studies. After completing his legal training, he was called to the bar at the Inner Temple in 1873. Darling's legal career began in earnest when he was appointed a Queen's Counsel in 1893, a title signifying exceptional skill and expertise in the legal profession. Darling's judicial career began in 1901 when he was appointed a Judge of the County Court. He was later elevated to the High Court of Justice in 1913, a position he held until his retirement in 1924. During his tenure as a judge, Darling was known for his fairness, impartiality, and clarity in delivering judgments.
