John Foxe (1517-1587) was an English historian and martyrologist, best known for his book Actes and Monuments, commonly known as Foxe's Book of Martyrs. He was born in Boston, Lincolnshire and studied at Brasenose College in Oxford. He was a Protestant reformer who wrote to defend the Protestant faith against the Roman Catholic Church. His book is considered one of the most important sources for English Reformation history.
