This historic photograph captures the momentous occasion of The Great Suffragist Procession in London, on 13th June 1908. Led by prominent figures in the women's rights movement, including Lady Frances Balfour, Emmeline Pankhurst's sister and President of the National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies (NUWSS), Millicent Fawcett, the leader of the NUWSS, Emily Davies, a pioneer in women's education, and Dr. Elizabeth Garrett Anderson, the first female doctor in England, this procession marked a significant turning point in the fight for women's suffrage. The photograph shows the determined and resolute expressions of the 10,000 women and 9,996 men who marched from the Embankment to the Albert Hall, carrying banners and placards that read "Votes for Women" and "Deeds not Words." The procession was a powerful demonstration of unity and determination, as women from all walks of life came together to demand their right to vote.
