This photograph, taken in 1928, showcases the unusual and thrilling sport of aquaplaning. Aquaplaning, a lesser-known variation of water skiing, gained popularity in the Roaring Twenties as an exciting and daring aquatic pastime. The woman in the image, dressed in a fashionable bathing suit and holding onto a tow rope, skillfully glides across the water's surface on two small, flat boards. Her determined expression and outstretched arms convey the sense of focus and control required to master this unconventional sport. Aquaplaning differed from water skiing in that the skis used were much smaller and flatter, allowing the skier to ride directly on top of the water without submerging the skis.
