EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph, taken in 1858, captures the adventurous spirit of Wilfred Scawen Blunt and his wife, Lady Anne Blunt, as they embark on yet another expedition in search of rare and exceptional horses for their stud farm. Wilfred, a renowned English poet and traveler, and Anne, his wife and partner in their shared passion for horses, are seen here with one of their falconers and his dog, against the backdrop of a vast, open desert landscape. The Blunts were known for their extensive travels throughout the Middle East and North Africa, seeking out the finest Arabian horses to add to their esteemed stud farm in England. Their love for horses was not only a hobby but a deep-rooted passion that drove them to embark on numerous expeditions, often in challenging and dangerous conditions. In this photograph, Wilfred, dressed in a long, flowing robe and turban, sits on a rocky outcropping, deep in thought, while Anne, dressed in a flowing, ankle-length skirt and veil, looks on intently. The falconer, with his hooded falcon perched on his arm, gazes off into the distance, while his dog sits obediently at his feet. The desert landscape stretches out before them, dotted with rolling dunes and the occasional acacia tree, creating a breathtaking and otherworldly scene. This photograph, taken in 1922 by an unknown photographer, is a testament to the Blunts' adventurous spirit and their unwavering dedication to their love of horses. It offers a glimpse into a bygone era of travel and exploration, and serves as a reminder of the enduring allure of the desert and the horses that roamed its vast expanse.
