In October 1910, American newspaper man Walter Wellman embarked on an ambitious project to design and pilot an airship named "America" across the Atlantic Ocean. Wellman, a pioneer in aviation, had previously made headlines for his successful transcontinental flight in 1903. However, his latest endeavor faced unforeseen challenges. The "America" was a massive airship, designed to carry a crew of 15 and equipped with state-of-the-art technology for the time. The crew, filled with excitement and anticipation, set sail from New York Harbor on October 15, 1910, ready to make history as the first transatlantic flight.
