Title: "A Regal Wedding: The Marriage of Alice of Albany, December 1737" This exquisite print depicts the grand wedding ceremony of Princess Alice of Albany, the eldest daughter of the Duke of Albany and Princess Anne of Great Britain, as she married the future King Charles Edward Stuart, also known as Bonnie Prince Charlie, in Rome on December 7, 1737. The historical image, captured by an unknown artist, showcases the opulence and grandeur of the event, which took place during the Jacobite uprisings in Scotland and England. Alice, dressed in a magnificent gown adorned with intricate lace and embroidery, holds a bouquet of flowers as she exchanges vows with her groom, who wears the traditional Scottish bonnet and plaid. The wedding took place in the Church of San Girolamo degli Schiavoni, and was attended by a select group of dignitaries and nobles, including the future Pope Clement XII. The marriage of Alice and Bonnie Prince Charlie was a significant event in the Jacobite cause, as it strengthened the claim of the exiled Stuart dynasty to the British throne.
