Pulaski was mortally wounded during the Siege of Savannah in 1779 and died shortly after. He played a vital role in the defense of Boston and the construction of fortifications at West Point. After the war, Kosciusko returned to Poland, where he became a national hero and led an unsuccessful uprising against the Russian Empire in 1794.
