The Valiant was a British jet-powered medium bomber, developed and manufactured by Vickers-Armstrongs as a successor to the successful Avro Manchester and Avro Lancaster bombers of World War II. The Valiant was a significant advancement in aviation technology for its time, featuring a delta wing design and four Rolls-Royce Avon jet engines, which provided a top speed of over 500 miles per hour. The aircraft was also notable for its versatility, as it was not only used as a bomber but also as a transport and maritime patrol aircraft. The Valiant entered service with the Royal Air Force (RAF) in 1955 and saw action during the Suez Crisis and the Malayan Emergency. It was eventually replaced in the bomber role by the Vickers Vulcan, but continued to serve in other capacities until the late 1970s.
