EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a significant moment in history - the coronation of Queen Victoria, who reigned over England from 1837 until her death in 1901. The grand ceremony took place on June 28,1837, at Westminster Abbey, where the Archbishop of Canterbury can be seen placing the crown upon the queen's head. This symbolic act marked the beginning of Victoria's long and influential reign. The bottom portion of this remarkable image showcases a jubilee procession that occurred on June 22,1887. As Empress of India from 1876 onwards, Victoria held immense power and commanded great respect throughout her empire. Surrounding portraits pay homage to important figures such as her father, the Duke of Kent; William IV; and her mother, Duchess of Kent. Amongst these notable faces are also Mary Queen of Scots, Mary II, Henry III, Edward III, and George III - all integral parts of British history. Published during her Golden Jubilee in 1887 as an oleograph (a type of chromolithograph), this print serves as a testament to Victoria's enduring legacy. Victoria was not only known for her political prowess but also for being deeply committed to her Christian faith. As an Anglican monarch with strong religious convictions and devotion to duty, she left an indelible mark on English society and royalty
