South Wales Railway: Opening of the Chepstow Bridge, 1852. Wrought iron tubular suspension bridge over the river Wye at Chepstow. This bridge, constructed 1849-1852, was an innovative design by Isambard Kingdom Brunel (1806-1859) and the use of wrought iron tubular girders is considered to be a dummy run for his last great masterpiece, the Royal Albert bridge over the Tamar at Saltash.
