EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the unique sight of the "Oberschlesian", an oil tanker like no other. Docked at Hamburg, this curious craft stands out due to its unconventional construction. Built by Krupps at Kiel, it is a remarkable feat of engineering as it was created using the hulls of two submarines. With a weight of approximately 2,000 tons, this vessel showcases innovation and resourcefulness in shipbuilding. Owned by one of the Stinnes companies, the "Oberschlesian" represents a blend of history and modernity. Its transformation from submarines to an oil tanker demonstrates adaptability and repurposing in maritime technology during the early twentieth century. The monochrome aesthetic adds a timeless quality to this photograph, allowing us to appreciate both its historical significance and artistic value.
