In 1951 the London County Council decided to proceed with a programme of works that would ensure that the sewage reaching the Outfall Works received adequate treatment. So in addition to the primary sedimentation pits for the removal of grit, screening chambers, a diffused air plant and power house are now under construction and work on a sludge digestion plant will shortly start.
