SANDY, an 18 month old Golden Retriever, is placidly homeward bound as he is photographed here, teeth clamped into the wicker basket which contains the family joint. Owned by Mr F C Clarke of Bedminster, Bristol, the dog is uniquely tempttion-resistant. mr Clarke sends him half a mile to the butcher shop, unaccompanied, for the family meat rations. And, although the succulent smell of raw meat hovers only an inch below his nostrils, Sandy has never yet stopped for refreshment on the homeward journey

In honour of his first birthday, dalmation Shawclough Buchaneer - known as Jasper - was given a slap-up birthday party, to which his master, cinema owner George Batty, invited all Jasper's friends - all with distinguished pedigree, of course, like Jasper. The guests, 12 of them, were invited by gilt edged invitation and were treated to liver, biscuits, bones, 10 pints of milk and, of course, a large birthday cake. There was no spotted dog on the menu!

Sam the Basset treats his torrid tongue to a refreshing dousing in a bucket of water after he had taken refreshment from a delicious looking boiled chicken he found on the kitchen table. The adage of old states "He who plays with fire will surely be burned" and so it turned out, for the chicken had been curried!
