EDITORS COMMENTS
The Sforza Tower in Milan, Italy, stands proudly as a testament to the rich history and defensive prowess of the city. Constructed in the 14th century, the oldest section of the castle, known as Porta Giovia, was built between 1360 and 1370 along the medieval city wall by Galeazzo Visconti II. The castle underwent continuous expansion and improvement over the centuries, with subsequent generations adding surrounding walls and four towers. In 1450, Francesco Sforza, a renowned General and the husband of Bianca Maria Visconti, daughter of the Duke of Milan, Filippo Maria Visconti, became the castle's patron. The Sforza family's influence on the castle is evident in its name, Castello Sforzesco. The photo, taken in the 1930s, captures the grandeur and historical significance of this architectural marvel. The Sforza Tower's intricate design, with its imposing walls and towering ramparts, speaks to the strategic importance of Milan during the medieval period. The castle's enduring presence serves as a reminder of the city's rich history and its role as a cultural and artistic hub in Italy.
