Majori Collection

Majori (Archaeolemuridae) is a genus of extinct mammals that lived in Madagascar during the late Pleistocene. It was one of the most common and widespread species of lemurs on the island, and it was closely related to living lemurs. Majori had a large head, long hind legs, and short forelimbs. Its diet likely consisted mainly of fruits and leaves, although it may have also eaten some insects or small vertebrates. Its body size was similar to that of modern-day ring-tailed lemurs, but its skull shape was more elongated than that of any living species. Majori is thought to have gone extinct around 10,000 years ago due to climate change and human hunting pressure, and is an important part of Madagascar's evolutionary history as it provides insight into how primates evolved on the island over time.
