EDITORS COMMENTS
This print from the STEAM Museum of the GWR takes us back to the charming Bangor-on-Dee Station in Wales during the 1950s. The image showcases locomotive No. 5404, a proud member of the 5400 class, standing gracefully at the station platform. With its sleek design and powerful presence, this locomotive was built in 1931 and served faithfully until its retirement in 1957. In this snapshot frozen in time, we are treated to a glimpse of both history and beauty. The station building stands tall behind the locomotive, exuding an air of timeless elegance with its intricate architecture. A bridge gracefully spans across the scene, adding depth and framing this picturesque view. Bangor-on-Dee Station itself holds a significant place in Welsh railway heritage. Opening its doors to passengers for the first time in November 1895, it became a bustling hub connecting communities near Wrexham. Sadly, like many other stations around that era, it closed its doors forever in September 1962. This evocative photograph serves as a poignant reminder of an era gone by; where steam engines ruled supreme and train travel held an undeniable allure. It transports us back to simpler times when these magnificent machines were not just modes of transportation but symbols of progress and adventure
