Saint Philomena, believed to have been born in the third century, is said to have been a young virgin and martyr from the city of Magna Gracia in Sicily. The origins of Saint Philomena's cult can be traced back to the early 14th century when a cave was discovered near the town of Mugnano del Cardinale in Italy. Inside the cave, the remains of a young girl were found, along with a small urn containing what appeared to be three vials of milk. The discovery was hailed as a miraculous find, and the girl was soon identified as Saint Philomena.
