Founded in 1874, they were a founder member of the Football League in 1888 and have spent the majority of their history in the top two divisions of English football. They currently compete in League One, the third tier of English football. They have won four FA Cups and three League Cups, as well as being runners-up twice in the FA Cup and once each in both the League Cup and UEFA Cup Winners' Cup.
