Western Wood Pewee Collection

The Western Wood Pewee (Contopus sordidulus) is a species of tyrant flycatcher, a passerine bird in the family Tyrannidae, and is found in western North America from Alaska to Mexico. This small bird has grayish-olive upperparts and yellowish underparts, with two white wing bars and a white tail tip. Its call is a soft "pee-a-wee" sound. The Western Wood Pewee feeds on insects, mostly caught by hawking from an exposed perch or by sallying out from one. It nests in trees or shrubs near open areas, laying 2–4 eggs in a cup nest made of bark strips and plant material. The Western Wood Pewee's population appears to be stable, although it may have declined slightly due to habitat loss caused by human activities such as logging and urbanization.
