All married to German minor royals, none of the Dukes sisters were invited to the royal wedding of 1947. Princess Cecile died tragically in a plane crash, together with her husband, two children and unborn fourth child in 1937 on the way to a wedding. Date: 1930

In this evocative photograph, the four sisters of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, are captured in a moment of shared history. The image, taken in 1930, features Princess Margaret of Greece and Denmark, top left, who later became Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon; Princess Sophia of Greece and Denmark, top right, who became Princess Sophia of Hesse and by Rhine; Princess Cecilie of Greece and Denmark, bottom right, who became Grand Duchess Cecilie of Hesse and by Rhine; and Princess Theodora of Greece and Denmark, bottom left, who became Margravine Theodora of Baden. All four sisters were born into the Greek royal family but married German minor royals. Sadly, none of them were invited to the royal wedding of the Duke of Edinburgh and Princess Elizabeth of York in 1947. The sisters' relationships with their brother were reportedly strained due to their marriages to German nobility during World War II. Princess Cecilie's tragic story stands out among the sisters.
