EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back to the summer of 1950, capturing a pivotal moment in the history of Shoreham Cement Works. The image showcases the dedication and craftsmanship of the workmen as they construct conical preliminary mixers for the newly rebuilt works. John Laing plc, responsible for rebuilding this iconic establishment between 1948 and 1950, also documented their remarkable progress. In this photograph, we witness these skilled laborers fixing shuttering to one mixer while simultaneously working on steelwork for another in the background. Their synchronized efforts highlight both their expertise and commitment to creating a state-of-the-art facility. Established in the 19th century, Shoreham Cement Works played a significant role in West Sussex's industrial landscape until its closure in 1991.
