Spiral galaxy IC 342, NuSTAR X-ray image. This spiral galaxy, also known as Caldwell 5, is 7 million light years distant in the constellation of Camelopardalis. The high-energy X-ray data, from NASAs Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array (NuSTAR) has been coloured pink and superimposed on a visible-light view. NuSTAR allows much higher resolution imaging. The two pink spots are black holes causing surrounding material to emit high-energy X-rays. The black holes appear much brighter than typical stellar-mass black holes.
