Spider web construction
Spider web construction. Computer trace of the movements made by a Fecenia singaporiensis spider as it constructed its silk web. The red lines show the spiders path as it formed initial structures such as anchor threads. Orange & brown lines relate to the construction of the webs radial threads, and blue and green lines to the sticky spiral used to capture prey. In this example, the spider built the radial threads (brown) and sticky spiral (blue) of the right half of the web, before constructing the radii (orange) and sticky spiral (green) of the other half. This work, carried out at the University of Basel in Switzerland, used a video camera attached to an image scanning device
