Saddleback anemonefish

Saddleback anemonefish (Amphiprion ephippium) pair by soft corals. This fish inhabits the tropical seas around Southeast Asia, generally staying in shallow waters near the coast. It has a symbiotic relationship with sea anemones, hiding from predators in their stinging tentacles. The fish itself is immune to the stings. It leaves its anemone to find food, mostly zooplankton. The fish at lower right is a juvenile. The white bar behind the eyes disappears as the fish matures. The saddleback anemonefish can reach a length of around 14 centimetres. Photographed in the Andaman Sea, Thailand. Science Photo Library features Science and Medical images including photos and illustrations. © GEORGETTE DOUWMA/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY
