EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases Paul Tissandier's balloon license, issued by the Aero-Club de France in 1904. Paul Tissandier, a French aeronaut and the son and nephew of renowned aeronaut brothers Gaston and Albert Tissandier, would later become an accomplished pilot of airships and aeroplanes. The Aero-Club de France, founded in 1898, played a crucial role in the development of aviation and became one of the founding members of the International Aeronautical Federation (FAI) in 1905. The print also features historical illustrations of two significant balloons from 1783: the first hot-air balloon created by the Montgolfier brothers on the top left corner, and the first hydrogen balloon on the top right corner. The signatures at the bottom left belong to Marquis Jules-Albert de Dion, President of Aero-Club de France at that time, while Georges Besancon's signature can be found at bottom right as Secretary-General. This monochrome artwork provides us with a glimpse into early aviation history. It beautifully captures not only Paul Tissandier's licensing document but also pays homage to pioneering figures like Jacques Charles and Nicolas Louis Robert who contributed to ballooning advancements during their time. This remarkable piece serves as a testament to human ingenuity and our relentless pursuit for exploration in transportation throughout centuries.
