Molecular graphic of vitamin A (retinol)

Vitamin A. Molecular model of vitamin A, also called retinol (formula: C20H30O). The atoms are spherical and colour-coded: carbon (blue), oxygen (red) and hydrogen (white). Vitamin A is essential for normal growth, for bone and teeth formation, night vision and for protecting against infection. It is found in animal foods such as liver, fish- liver oil, eggs and dairy products. Carotene, from sources such as green vegetables and fruits, is converted into vitamin A in the liver. Deficiency leads to night-blindness, dry skin and eyes, and reduced resistance to infection. Prolonged excess intake can cause hypervitaminosis A, leading to nausea, hair loss and liver damage

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a detailed molecular graphic of vitamin A, also known as retinol. The intricate model depicts the atoms in vibrant colors, with carbon represented by blue spheres, oxygen by red spheres, and hydrogen by white spheres. Vitamin A plays a crucial role in various bodily functions such as normal growth, bone and teeth formation, night vision, and immune system protection against infections. While animal foods like liver, fish-liver oil, eggs, and dairy products are rich sources of vitamin A, carotene found in green vegetables and fruits can be converted into this essential nutrient in the liver. Insufficient intake of vitamin A can lead to night-blindness, dry skin and eyes, as well as reduced resistance to infections. However beneficial it may be when consumed within recommended limits or obtained naturally from food sources; excessive intake of vitamin A can have adverse effects. Prolonged overconsumption can result in hypervitaminosis A which manifests through symptoms like nausea, hair loss and even liver damage. This visually striking image not only highlights the complex structure of this vital compound but also serves as a reminder of its significant impact on our overall health.
