Model head of the dinosaur, Tyrannosaurus rex
Tyrannosaurus rex. Model head of the carnivorous dinosaur, Tyrannosaurus rex. Rows of dagger-like teeth line the open jaws of this life-size model as it prepares to attack its prey. Tyrannosaurus rex (the name translates to: " King of the terrible lizards" ) was one of the largest and most fear- some dinosaur predators. It lived during the Mesozoic period some 65-75 million years ago. As a two-legged carnivore it could pursue its prey by running on powerful hindlegs; its jaws and teeth were adapted for meat-eating and could inflict terrible wounds. Tyrannosaurus rex reached 12 metres in length. Photographed at the Natural History Museum, London
