US dollar bill, George Washington parody Featured 19 May 2011 Print

US dollar bill, George Washington parody

US dollar bill, George Washington parody. The normal US dollar bill does not show Washington smoking. George Washington (1732-1799, centre), farmer, soldier and politician, was born into a Virginian planter family in 1732. He went on to command the Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War and was subsequently elected the first President of the United States. He served for two terms from 1789 to 1797, but refused to serve for a third term. His term of office saw the development of a strong central government based on sound financial policies and the adoption of a neutral foreign policy

Johann von Goethe, German author Featured 19 May 2011 Print

Johann von Goethe, German author

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832), German author and scientist, parodied holding a mobile phone. One of the greatest figures in German literature, Goethe also applied himself to science. As an anatomist, he made important discoveries about the skeleton. His botanical study was published as Metamorphosis of Plants, stating that all plant structures were modified leaves. He was an early evolutionist who believed that animals became more specialised through the ages. Goethe also wrote about optics, but incorrectly opposed Newton's theory that white light was made of several colours
