Gas fuel compressor plant
Gas fuel compressor plant for the North European gas pipeline. This is the Babayevskaya gas compressor station, in Russias Vologda region, north of Moscow. Also known as Nord Stream, this pipeline is being built from Russia to Germany, passing under the Baltic Sea. Up to six compressor stations will be used to maintain a pressure of 100 atmospheres and keep the natural gas flowing through the pipeline. The overland section of the pipeline in Russia will be 917 kilometres long. Construction of the overland section began on 9 December 2005 and is scheduled for completion in 2010. EDITORS COMMENTS
This aerial photograph captures the impressive Babayevskaya gas compressor station, located in Russia's Vologda region. Serving as a vital component of the North European gas pipeline, also known as Nord Stream, this state-of-the-art facility plays a crucial role in maintaining the flow of natural gas from Russia to Germany. The ambitious project involves constructing a pipeline that stretches 917 kilometers across Russian territory and passes underneath the Baltic Sea. To ensure an uninterrupted supply of natural gas, up to six compressor stations like Babayevskaya are strategically placed along the route. These stations exert immense pressure, up to 100 atmospheres, enabling smooth transportation through the pipeline. Captured on April 24th, 2006 by Science Photo Library, this image showcases not only the technological prowess but also highlights Russia's significant contribution to Europe's energy needs. The construction of this overland section began on December 9th, 2005 and is set for completion in 2010. With its towering structures and intricate network of pipes and equipment visible from above, this print serves as a testament to human ingenuity in harnessing fossil fuel resources efficiently. It symbolizes both industrial progress and collaboration between nations in meeting energy demands while emphasizing environmental considerations. As we enter into the twenty-first century where sustainable energy sources gain prominence globally, images like these remind us of our reliance on traditional power solutions while inspiring further advancements towards cleaner alternatives.
