Cro-Magnon man reconstructed head C013 / 6464
Reconstruction of the head of Cro-Magnon man. Cro-Magnon is the earliest European example of Homo sapiens. Cro-Magnons lived between about 40, 000 and 10, 000 years ago, in the Upper Paleolithic. They were anatomically similar to modern humans, although slightly more robust with a larger cranial capacity. They used flint tools, and also made paintings, sculptures and carvings. Model by Maurice Wilson circa 1950

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the reconstructed head of Cro-Magnon man, a significant discovery in the field of paleoanthropology. The Cro-Magnon man, Europe's earliest example of Homo sapiens, thrived during the Upper Paleolithic era between 40,000 and 10,000 years ago. With an anatomical resemblance to modern humans but slightly more robust features and a larger cranial capacity, these ancient beings left an indelible mark on our understanding of human evolution. The black background accentuates every intricate detail of this remarkable model created by Maurice Wilson circa 1950. It serves as a testament to the artistic abilities and scientific knowledge possessed by our ancestors. Using flint tools for survival was just one aspect of their advanced skills; they also expressed themselves through paintings, sculptures, and carvings. Displayed against a single cut-out backdrop with shoulders visible, this photograph offers us a glimpse into the past that is both awe-inspiring and thought-provoking. It reminds us that we are part of an unbroken chain stretching back thousands of generations. Preserved within this image lies not only biological evidence but also anthropological insights into our shared history as hominids. As we marvel at this replica's lifelike appearance and contemplate its significance in evolutionary biology and paleontology, we cannot help but feel connected to those who came before us – to the prehistoric world inhabited by Cro-Magnon man.
